Chicago synthpop post-punk group Killwave is back with their 3rd album “The Pulse of Life” with a CD release listening party at the Metro on April 14th at Nocturna. Legendary goth DJ Scary Lady Sarah will be spinning tracks from the album throughout the night. This album sees Killwave’s sound return to their 80s/90s elements and retains intense dark guitars paired with an expansive palette of synthesizers. With this album Jim challenged himself to write new wave inspired music that would be push the boundaries of Killwave. Once George heard a preview of the tracks he said he would deliver lyrics that would match the intensity and before they knew it the Pulse of Life was born.
The group is made up of George Pinto (vocals), Jim King (guitars & synths) and Bran X (drums).
Press leading up to the release of Death by Distortion include local weekly newspaper’s Gossip Wolf column describing Killwave as “industrial-electro rockers.. who sound like mid-90s Bowie singing for Front 242” - Chicago Reader
“George Pinto’s vocals edge towards a synth-goth David Bowie…there’s a bubbling sexuality in the sound of the instrumentation against Pinto’s vocals that’s akin to being the lovechild of Joy Division and Nine Inch Nails” - Jessi Roti of Local Loop Chicago, now with Chicago Tribune
“Their overall sound can be compared to the 80’s aesthetic of The Cure, industrial Ministry vocals, and the modern melodic rock style of The Killers” - Alternative Nation
